So you are ready to plan a bachelorette party for a friend or family member – great! Bachelorette parties are a fun way for female friends and family members to get together to celebrate with a bride to be. There are so many different party themes you can select for your bachelorette party, but a really fun one to have is a poker party.

If you are going to plan a poker party themed bachelorette party you’ll probably be having it in someone’s home. Unless you live close to a casino where table games are played someone’s house will be your option. The kind of poker you and your friends will want to play will have an impact on determining the guest list. To play Texas Hold’Em you will want to aim for about 6 to 10 people per table. If you want to play some other form of poker (like Seven Card Stud) you will want to have about 5 to 7 people per game. If space allows you can have more than one poker table at a time, and you can also allow for people to take a break from the card playing to enjoy your food or to visit with friends and family.

What kind of supplies will you need to host a poker party themed bachelorette party? There are several different areas where you are going to need to have supplies.

Poker Supplies

To play a game of poker you are going to need at least two decks of cards for each table and poker chips.  If you can manage it a poker table is a great touch.  Chairs for all the players at the table are also needed.

Paper Goods

You aren’t going to feel like doing dishes after a fun night of playing poker, so disposable tableware is a must.  You will want to have on hand plates, napkins and cups as well as hand wipes (so the card players can keep the cards clean).  If you are going to serve food that requires a knife, fork or spoon you will need to have plastic cutlery as well.  However, the whole idea of a poker party is to play cards so you will most likely want to have foods on hand that are easy to eat with your fingers.

Decorations

Since the bachelorette party is a festive time you are going to want to decorate the room to add to the party atmosphere.  Balloons, streamers, and bachelorette party signs or banners can all add to the ambiance of your party.

Party Menu

Finger foods make the most sense for a bachelorette party menu for parties with a poker theme. You will want to provide a variety of foods to satisfy the guests and different tastes. When inviting people to the party you can ask if they have any special dietary restrictions (such as low sodium, diabetic, or vegetarian) to make sure you have something at the party they can eat.

Some suggestions for food for your poker party include:

  • Cut up raw vegetables and fruit
  • Cheese cubes
  • Mini Sandwiches
  • Chips, pretzels, and crackers
  • Spring Rolls
  • Buffalo Wings (but be sure to have lots of hand wipes available if you serve them because wings can get messy!!)
  • Things to satisfy a sweet tooth – chocolate dipped fruit, cookies, or mini pastries.
  • A variety of beverage choices – soda, water, beer, wine, and mixed drinks depending on who you invite and what they like.

Party Favors

Party favors are not a requirement for a bachelorette party, but they do make a nice memento of the night.  Items to consider include personalized playing cards, shot glasses or beer mugs.

Whatever you decide to give away as party favors, try to include the name of the bride to be and the date of the bachelorette party.  It will be a nice keepsake for her in years to come as well.

Variations on this Party Theme

If you don’t like to play poker, that‘s fine. You can have a card party themed bachelorette party and play whatever card games you like. Just be sure to invite the right number of people you will need to play whatever game you choose. Gin Rummy, Bridge, Euchre, Pinochle and Whist can all be fun games to play at a card party. If room allows you can set up different tables where people can play different card games. Just be sure to have someone at each table who knows how to play the game well to instruct any new players.

A poker themed bachelorette party can be a fun way to celebrate with a bride to be.  There are no rules when it comes to throwing a bachelorette party except to have fun!
